1590- the future king james i wrote an important book on witchcraft.
1645- the year when matthew hopkins, witchfinder, accused record numbers of people of witchcraft in essex.
1717- the last trial for witchcraft.
1736- the last law saying that witchcraft was a crime was repealed

ways they tortored witchs
the swimiming test-the swim test was to show if they were a witches or not. they put holy water in in water and tie weights to the victim and if they float it meant that god is rejecting then and they were to do with the divel. the priest layed a part in this.
